Willapa National Wildlife Refuge was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937. The Refuge was established in order to protect the migrating and wintering populations of brant, waterfowl, shorebirds, and other migratory birds and their habitats. Today, these lands preserve a rich heritage of wildlife for environmental conservation and wildlife-dependent recreation.

The Friends group is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation and was established in July 2000 to provide support and assistance to Refuge programs and to enhance awareness and appreciation of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.

Membership

All Friends of Willapa National Wildlife Refuge members receive the following as part of their membership:

  • Tax deductions on membership and additional contributions as permitted by law
  • Quarterly Willapa Tidings newsletter
  • Invitations to members-only appreciation events
  • Voting privileges for Friends' board positions and for bylaws administration
  • Volunteer opportunities

Patron members and above receive invitations to special events, guided tours / hikes, and skills workshops.

Willapa Refuge
