Our mission
Our Mission Statement
To provide assistance to Refuge programs and to enhance awareness and appreciation of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.
Our Goals are:
-
To provide education and awareness programs for elementary, middle, and high school students and for adults of all ages.
The Friends provide a regionally-recognized 4th grade (elementary) wildlife and conservation curriculum, as well as offer scholarships to graduating 12th grade (high school) seniors intending to pursue advanced education in natural resources or conservation fields. Adult education and outreach programs are offered to the general public.
-
To support the operating activities of the Refuge.
Specific projects requiring Friends attention include trail maintenance, habitat restoration, threatened and endangered species inventory and monitoring projects, and supplemental administrative and operational support for Refuge staff.
-
To advocate issues supporting the Refuge.
The Willapa Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) outlines the plans of the Refuge for the next fifteen years. The CCP includes plans for continued habitat restoration, public outreach, and a new office / visitors center. For more information on the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge CCP, visit their CCP web site.
-
To establish and maintain programs for recruiting new and retaining existing members.
Increasing overall memberships is a priority for sustainability and viability of the Friends organization.
